Call TRAC for help: 0800 TRAC N4 (0800 8722 64). TRACassist will provide assistance in any emergency along the N4 Toll Route.
Be careful of animals
The N4 Toll Route winds through some of the most beautiful rural countryside in South Africa where wildlife still abounds. This also means that you may encounter wildlife on the main roads. TRAC has erected various road signs to alert road users of areas frequented by animals. A taxi driver was injured recently when he lost control of his vehicle after he hit a hippo. It was the fourth incident of its kind on the N4 Toll Route over the last 7 years. The hippo died on impact.
Road users are advised to be vigilant and to protect themselves and our wildlife.

| Arrive Alive suggests the following: |
- Take special care near animal crossing warning signs or signs warning of the absence of fences. The signs are there for a reason
- Minimise your distractions. Pay full attention and you’ll be more likely to spot approaching animals
Scan the roadside as you drive - If you see one animal, expect that there are others nearby
Use your high beams whenever possible - Always obey the speed limit, or adapt your speed to keep alert of wildlife
- Always wear safety belts
- Be especially cautious at night
