07 Jun Major upgrade between Matola and Maputo nears completion
TRAC is pleased to announce that the major upgrade of the EN4 between Matola and Maputo (Sections 19 and 20) in Mozambique, will be completed on 18 June and auxiliary works are expected to be finalised in July.
This project – to upgrade both sections to a six-lane carriageway – started in May 2017. Roadworks also included the rehabilitation of the existing paving, widening of several bridges, construction of the median as well as barrier walls, drains and walkways.
The median between the Shoprite Intersection and the Maputo Plaza is yet to be constructed. This part of the project is delayed due to circumstances beyond TRAC’s control, but will be discussed, and decided on, following a meeting with Administração Nacional de Estradas (ANE).
Although two lanes on either side of the carriageway remained open throughout the project, the nature of the roadworks resulted in traffic disruptions over the past two and a half years due to lane width restrictions and other construction-related aspects. In view of this, TRAC would like to thank our road users for their patience and understanding during this time.
TRAC prides itself on offering quality road infrastructure and therefore continuously works on improving and maintaining our route. We value our road users and take our commitment to maintaining the N4 Toll Route on par with world standards seriously, for their benefit and safety.
